At Keystone Chiropractic, we practice the Blair technique, a subset of upper cervical care in general. The Blair Technique seeks to pinpoint and adjust the exact area of misalignment that is causing symptoms. Dr. WIlliam Blair’s own personal experience with asthma led him to explore ways that chiropractic care could be used to help minimize and ameliorate symptoms of a variety of conditions, many of which are typically treated by addressing the symptoms rather than the root cause. We discuss how Dr. Blair himself came to discover the success that chiropractic treatments had on his asthma in one of our podcasts, but thought it might be helpful to recap and revisit some of that here.
Connecting Asthma and Chiropractic Care
Dr. Blair became a Doctor of Chiropractic after treatments by an Upper Cervical chiropractor helped reduce his asthma symptoms. As a young boy, his asthma was so bad that his family moved to find a climate that would be best for him. Nothing seemed to work and at one point he was not expected to live past 25. After many attempts at treatment, Dr. Blair visited Dr. Leon Halstead. Dr. Halstead had studied under Dr. Palmer and performed a cervical adjustment. Even in humid and musty environments, his asthma was much improved. When his symptoms flared the only thing that seemed to really help were atlas adjustments.
As an analytical person, Dr. Blair decided to take up chiropractic studies himself. Throughout his training and early practice, Dr. Blair was determined to precisely evaluate and identify the issue that was causing his patients pain. Many people from miles away flocked to him for his care.
Using Technology for Chiropractic Care
Now, through the advances in technology, we have the ability to utilize Dr. Blair’s methodologies in our office. Through the use of Cone Beam Computed Technology (CBCT), we can precisely identify areas where the spine is out of alignment and can move to correct those areas to help to alleviate and eliminate symptoms.
When we talk about allergies from mold or pollen, or environmental allergies, most people think about sneezing, coughing, and asthma reaction. But you can also have allergies to what you eat. There may be people whose bodies are just naturally more sensitive to these allergens. But there are others whose bodies react to allergens simply because they are out of alignment. It is not that we, as chiropractors, fix allergies. That is not what we do. What we do is fix the reason their body could have some hyperreactivity, and that starts with the central nervous system.
In addition to helping with asthma, allergies, and other sinus conditions, upper cervical adjustments can lower cortisol levels and boost immune response, all of which can help our bodies deal with the tremendous amount of stress we might be exposed to through our busy lifestyles.
If you are experiencing pain or discomfort, are tired, or rundown, we may be able to help. Call our office today for an evaluation. We will help get your head on straight!
